Incredibly Rare Halal Kobe Beef Dinner in Osaka

Osaka City

Kobe beef is famous throughout the world for its legendary, juicy tenderness and flavor. However, Kobe beef that is halal is extremely rare, and only a handful of restaurants in the world offer this delicacy. If you're looking for halal Kobe beef, look no further than Nagomi!

Feel free to follow favy!
Wagyu (和牛)means literally "Japanese beef." Wagyu is known for its distinctive marbling pattern and incredibly tender texture when cooked. Wagyu from Hyogo prefecture (Where the city of Kobe is located) is called Kobe beef, and is generally considered to be the highest quality of wagyu due to the stringent requirements a cow needs to meet to be qualified as "Kobe beef."

Cows officially qualified as "Kobe" cows are therefore very rare, with only a few thousand being slaughtered per year. Among those cows, a tiny fraction--countable on one hand--are certified and processed as halal.

The meat served at Nagomi in Osaka, therefore, is extremely rare! If you get the chance to visit, don't pass it up!

The Menu

Everyone who eats at Nagomi will choose a Kobe beef course from the simple menu, and will be served a steak with several side dishes, a soup, and dessert. The courses vary only by the amount and cut of beef.

The prices run from ¥22,000 for the 150 gram standard Kobe beef course, to ¥68,000 for the 300 gram sirloin and fillet course. The price might seem high, but considering that the typical cost of standard Kobe beef is already higher than any other kind of beef, it makes sense that the increased scarcity added by being certified as halal would make this beef so expensive.

Muslim-Friendly Amenities

In addition to a completely halal menu and alcohol-free restaurant, Nagomi also offers a prayer room equipped with prayer mats, prayer dress, and a Quibla compass. There is also a washroom designated for Wudu, so you can comfortably prepare for prayer. Everything seems to have been carefully thought out at Nagomi, and Muslim visitors will be very well taken care of by the friendly and welcoming owner.

Visiting Nagomi

Nagomi is located in Osaka City, a quick walk from Nippombashi station. If you plan to visit, it is a very good idea to make a reservation in advance! For the time being, walk-ins are accepted, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to get a meal on the same day, as the space is very small.

Finally...

As mentioned above, Kobe beef--let alone halal Kobe beef--is rare and quite expensive. However, eating it at least once is something that everyone should try! If you get the chance to visit Nagomi, enjoy!
