6 Excellent Yet Cheap Yakitori Restaurants In Tokyo!

Who doesn't like yakitori, especially when its cheap! Here are five restaurants in Tokyo that are well-known for their great quality yet that won't cost you over ¥4,000 for an evening dinner with drinks.

Michishirube 道しるべ [In Shinjuku]

Michishirube is a very popular Yakitori restaurant in the Kabukicho area 5-10 minutes walk from Shinjuku station. Its very common to see people lining up outside the restaurant at night time to get a seat inside - a true indicator of how good this place is! It's reasonably priced and great selection of dishes to keep your appetite steaming ahead. Definitely worth a look!

Morimoto 渋谷 森本 [In Shibuya]

Morimoto is located a 3-minute walk from the Hachiko Exit of the Shibuya Station. This is definitely one of the most reputable yakiniku restaurants in the area. It has been in operation since 1948.

You may have to wait in line but the food you'll get is truly outstanding. One of their most famous menu items is the one pictured above, which isn't chicken, but actually, unagi (freshwater eel) grilled yakitori-style. It's uncommon to have it cooked on a skewer like this. With just the right seasoning the result is mind-blowing. Try any other yakitori here and you won't be disappointed.

Takechan 武ちゃん [In Ginza]

Takechan is a family-owned restaurant run by an 80-year old man called Takechan. This restaurant is a little hard to find, but you can spot the queue. Luckily, you won't have to wait too long. You can choose between an 8 or 10 skewer course, and you can also order a la carte.
The restaurant has an English menu. You can expect to pay about¥3,000~¥3,999.

Abechan Azabu-Juban Location あべちゃん 麻布十番店 [In Azabu-Juban]

This is a very popular yakitori izakaya in Azabu-Juban. You can't tell by the storefront, but its actually a pretty spacious place with some 50 seats. The yakitori and the yakiton (pork skewers) are pretty cheap and the taste is excellent so it gets pretty crowded. Its a nice place to have a couple of drinks in good company too!

It's located at just a 2-minute walk from Azabu-Juban station and within a relatively short walking distance of Roppongi as well.

Yakitori Miyagawa やき鳥 宮川 [In Nihonbashi]

This is a yakitori izakaya that has an amazing karaage lunch set you have have to try along with their delicious chicken skewers. They also serve delicacies such as chicken sashimi that is ultra fresh. Even if you eat plenty it shouldn't cost you more than ¥4,000 at night. Yakitori Miyagawa is located near Kayabacho station.

Take note that this tavern-restaurant is only open on weekdays!

Edomasa 江戸政 [in Nihonbashi]

Edomasa is an iconic yakitori restaurant in Tokyo. The shop of long-standing is only open from 5 PM to 8 PM on weekdays and from 5 PM to 6:30 PM on Saturday, yet you will often see people waiting in line from 4 PM to get in! Reservations are not possible, so if you want to eat there, you will probably have to wait in line for some time.

Their yakitori is served as part of an obligatory fixed course (¥1,420) and you can order extras once you are done.
