Guide To The Awesome Taverns Of Ebisu Yokocho

Ebisu

Ebisu is a chic neighborhood in Tokyo with many exquisite restaurants (sushi, French, etc.). It is also famous for its garden place, which is lit up during Christmas time. But, Ebisu is also famous for Ebisu yokocho; a down-to-earth, lively and fun place to have a drink and a bite to eat... for cheap! I would say your Japanese experience isn't complete without having visiting Ebisu Yokocho at least once!

Ebisu is a chic neighborhood in Tokyo with many exquisite restaurants (sushi, French, etc.). It is also famous for its garden place, which is lit up during Christmas time. But, Ebisu is also famous for Ebisu yokocho; a down-to-earth, lively and fun place to have a drink and a bite to eat... for cheap! I would say your Japanese experience isn't complete without having visiting Ebisu Yokocho at least once!
It is an agglomeration of small izakaya style taverns under one roof. The tables are close together and it is very easy to make friends while out drinking. You can also "bar hop" and try different foods or whatever tickles your fancy. Would you like Chinese, ramen, oden (Japanese hot pot) or maybe even mushroom specialized cuisine? Or why not all of the above!

Kinoko きのこ料理

Kinoko Ryouri, a tiny stall with a few counter seats and a few tables, specializes in mushroom dishes. You can get mushroom salads, or omelettes and dishes go for around ¥300-¥500. This restaurant is open from 17:00~5:00 on weekdays, and 17:00~1:00 on weekends and holidays.

Denraku でんらく

Denraku specializes in "oden", a one-pot dish usually consisting of daikon, tofu, boiled eggs, konjac cooked in a dashi (fish) broth. It is normally a winter dish, but it is a comfort food for many Japanese and can be comforting on a rainy day as well. Dishes are cheap here and so is beer (¥500).
It is open from 16:00-4:00 from everyday

Ninniku 豚焼セレブ にん肉

This izakaya specializes in grilled pork.
You can order pieces of meat from about ¥320 that you grill yourself. Each slice of pork is thick cut and super tender! They also sell "horumon" (entrails).
It is open from 17:00-5:00.

Koisakaba 恋酒場

In Ebisu Yokocho, you can have a bit of everything, but at this particular restaurant too! They serve Korean, Spanish and Japanese cuisine. Let's give it a try!

Bulldog 串揚げぶるどっく

This restaurant specializes in kushiage, deep-fried skewered meat, and vegetables. The recommendation menu "omakase" is ¥900 and consists of 9 varieties of meats or vegetables that the chef chooses.
It is open from 17:00-2:00

Yokocho alleys are areas of narrow lanes on the side of a main street where there is a high concentration of pubs, bars and other kinds of eateries. They were originally roughly built local marketplaces during the reconstruction phase post WW2.
